Today (22nd), U.S. President Donald Trump announced the launch of an unprecedented artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure investment initiative—the Stargate Project. The project, jointly funded by SoftBank, Oracle, and OpenAI, is set to invest $500 billion over the next four years. President Trump stated that this initiative will create approximately 100,000 jobs and will be accompanied by a series of executive orders to ensure sufficient energy supply for AI infrastructure and new data centers.
Trump was joined by Oracle founder Larry Ellison, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, who revealed that the first phase will involve a $100 billion investment, with the ultimate goal of reaching $500 billion. Son noted that Abu Dhabi-based investment partner MGX, along with tech giants NVIDIA and Microsoft, will also participate in the project. He highlighted Microsoft's strong support for OpenAI and its continued commitment to advancing AI.
“I believe the realization of AGI is near, but that is not the end goal,” said Son during a White House briefing. “After AGI, artificial superintelligence will emerge to solve problems humanity never imagined we could solve,” he added, envisioning the dawn of a new golden age.
In a statement, OpenAI said the Stargate Project's founding equity partners include SoftBank, OpenAI, and MGX, with SoftBank and OpenAI serving as the lead partners. OpenAI will oversee operations, while Son will serve as the project's chairman. Key initial technology collaborators include Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI.
Ellison emphasized the transformative impact of AI on healthcare, citing advancements in early cancer detection and the development of personalized cancer vaccines. “Cancer tumors release tiny fragments that circulate in the blood, which can be detected through blood tests. AI can analyze these samples to diagnose life-threatening cancers,” he explained. Ellison added that advancements in gene sequencing could enable rapid development of vaccines tailored to specific cancers, potentially saving lives.
Ellison also highlighted Oracle's long-standing collaboration with OpenAI and Son. He noted that construction has already begun on 10 data centers, each covering half a million square feet, in Texas. The number of data centers is expected to expand to 20, with additional locations beyond the initial site in Abilene, Texas. These facilities will serve as critical hubs for AI advancement, solidifying the U.S.'s leadership in the global AI sector.
