Sydney, Australia – August 29, 2025 – Australia’s largest security event, Security Exhibition & Conference 2025, concluded at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), running from August 27–29 alongside the Integrate Expo. For the first time, the event adopted the theme “Security × AV Integration”, bringing together over 150 global exhibitors in fields spanning AI surveillance, IoT sensing, access control, cybersecurity, and biometrics.

AV (Audio-Visual) integration was the central focus, reflecting a growing trend toward natural technological convergence. Smart cameras, for example, can connect with conferencing systems for real-time crowd monitoring and emergency alerts—demonstrating how security technologies are evolving toward intelligent, scenario-based integration.

The Rise of AI and Smart Security

Smart security is evolving from “seeing” to “understanding.” At the exhibition, Taiwanese companies stood out by showcasing how AI and intelligent technologies enhance real-time monitoring, access control, and risk prediction:

  • Vivotek unveiled its 25th anniversary flagship solutions, including the VORTEX cloud platform, AI Hub, and Deep Search module for large-scale video analytics.
  • Merit Lilin presented AI cameras and intelligent video management technologies for applications in retail, transportation, and smart cities.
  • Waferlock highlighted IoT-enabled smart locks and access solutions to enhance building and infrastructure protection.

These innovations not only demonstrate the strength of Taiwanese companies in AI and smart security but also reveal a global trend toward greater intelligence and integration, paving the way for future policy and ethical discussions.

The Double-Edged Sword of AI: Balancing Technology and Risks

The concurrent Security ASIAL Conference 2025, themed “Security at the Crossroads,” addressed geopolitical tensions and emerging technologies.

  • Peter Jennings, strategic analyst, discussed how global power shifts are reshaping security strategies.
  • Anna Acopian, CEO of Safegate AI, highlighted AI’s dual role—enhancing detection yet also enabling risks such as deepfakes and cyberattacks.
  • Hamish Hansford, Deputy Secretary for Cyber and Infrastructure Security at Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, stressed the need for cross-sector intelligence-sharing frameworks.

Taiwan’s Policy and Technology Response

Taiwan has advanced a three-pronged approach to AI governance:

  • Policy: The Cybersecurity Management Act (2019) strengthens anomaly detection and reporting.
  • Governance: The AI Action Plan 2.0 promotes a “trustworthy AI” environment, supported by a new AI testing center aligned with NIST, ISO, and EU standards.
  • Technology: TWCERT/CC operates a cross-industry threat intelligence-sharing platform, while MSI develops deepfake detection tools for real-time alerts.

These efforts reflect Taiwan’s three-pronged approach—law, technology, and intelligence-sharing—in building a security and innovation-friendly AI governance network. This not only enhances domestic cybersecurity but also establishes a trustworthy AI environment that strengthens the global competitiveness of Taiwanese companies. As international clients increasingly prioritize privacy protection, ethical standards, and compliance, security measures are becoming not just risk management tools but also a competitive advantage for Taiwan’s smart security industry, supporting its transition from manufacturing to solution-oriented exports.

Trend Outlook and Taiwan’s Role: From OEM to Solution Exporter

According to Global Growth Insights, the global smart security and crowd management market is projected to grow from USD 11.8 billion in 2024 to USD 73.3 billion by 2034, representing a compound annual growth rate of 19.6%. This growth reflects rising demand for AI-driven security in stadiums, music festivals, smart cities, and retail venues.

Although Taiwanese companies were not present in large numbers at this year’s event, they remain central to the global supply chain. Leveraging strengths in edge AI chips, image sensors, and security firmware, Taiwan is evolving beyond hardware OEM into integrated solution providers.

  • Synology has extended its leadership in network storage into security, with its Surveillance Station platform integrating video management, AI analytics, and access control—designed with cybersecurity as a core feature.
  • QNAP has developed QVR Pro and QVR Elite surveillance solutions, combining AI recognition and event detection with flexible deployment for large-scale environments.
  • GeoVision offers AI-powered video analytics such as facial recognition, demographic profiling, people counting, and queue detection to optimize retail and smart building operations.
  • Umbo CV, a startup, specializes in real-time abnormal behavior detection and cloud-based alerts, actively expanding into the North American market.
  • Ingrasys, a Foxconn subsidiary, has expanded from servers and storage systems into AI edge computing, targeting smart building and infrastructure security applications.

These examples highlight how Taiwan is building on its manufacturing base to provide end-to-end, AI-enabled smart security solutions. By combining hardware efficiency with expertise in analytics, data governance, and encryption, Taiwan is positioned to move from being a component supplier to becoming a global exporter of integrated security solutions.
